Poetry in the Brew Open Mic

On the second Saturday of each month, something special happens in the upstairs loft at Portland Brew East. People of all ages and backgrounds gather to celebrate something that connects them: poetry. From spoken word to literary poetry, participants can recite their work to a roomful of listeners who range from seasoned performers to first-timers, all creating a colorful mosaic of poems. Those who sign up can perform once during the first round, and can later recite more work in the second round if they wish. December’s featured poet will be Spoke N-Words from Antioch. Spoke has performed his style of slam poetry throughout several stages across Nashville, and he’s received several local awards as a result. He is also an ambassador for Po’Boys and Poets, a local corps that hosts poetry events in Antioch. Events like these keep the literary scene in Nashville alive and well, and they are open to anyone who wants to participate. 5:30 p.m. at Portland Brew East, 1921 Eastland Ave. KELSEY BEYELER
