Immersive art experiences are the Frankenstein’s monster of the art world, mixing elements of science exhibits with those of a funhouse, with some Escape Game storytelling stuck in. Meow Wolf in Sante Fe, N.M., is a well-known immersive art experience, as is Philadelphia’s Mattress Factory. Nashville’s Otherworld Encounter is looking to put our fair city on that same map with a pop-up that promises 10,000 square feet of sci-fi-themed art that you can “explore, touch, feel, smell, swing and be” a part of. According to a promo video on the exhibition website, Otherworld Encounter has contributed $100,000 to local creatives since the organization began in 2018. Its goal is to raise money and awareness to create a permanent exhibition by 2021, which will add a weirdo-art element to Nashville’s booming tourism industry. Tickets for adults are $25 plus fees, and $12 plus fees for children. Buy tickets and get more information about the specific parts of the exhibition, which is open every day through July 21, at otherworldencounter.com or by calling 629-401-9547. Through July 21 at The Fairgrounds Nashville LAURA HUTSON HUNTER
