Opening reception: Yasmine El-Chaer "An Immigrants' Daughter"

An Immigrants' Daughter

This November, the First Saturday Art Crawl falls on the eve of election week. Studio 66 invites you to the opening reception for local Palestinian-American artist Yasmine El-Chaer.“ An Immigrants’ Daughter” by Yasmine El-Chaer opens Saturday, November 3rd with a reception from 6-9pm. The work will be shown by appointment throughout November.

Yasmine El-Chaer: "An Immigrants’ Daughter" revolves around the experience that she and other girls have grown up around in America. Yasmine wants to create a series of work that sheds light on the life of second generation women. She feels that they are an underrepresented class and, due to her own experiences, was moved to speak on the topic.

Artist statement:

With this series, An Immigrants' Daughter, I am exploring the experience of second generation immigrant children. Second generation immigrants are an underrepresented class and women, even more so, are often dismissed in conversations surrounding our experiences and dedication to the motherland. I want to bring light to the life of those around me and to let everyone know that we, as immigrant’s daughters, have a voice in America.
