Editor’s Note: As a response to Metro’s stay-at-home order to help slow the spread of COVID-19, we’ve changed the focus of our Critics’ Picks section. Rather than pointing you in the direction of events happening this week in Nashville, here are some activities you can partake in while you’re at home practicing social distancing.
One of the few bright spots in our current quarantined reality is that music fans are still able to enjoy such a wide range of concert experiences — and perhaps even take time to explore some new genres. Personally, I’ve been catching some great performances from the Nashville Jazz Workshop. On the workshop’s YouTube page, you can check out past concerts from its storied listening room, The Jazz Cave, along with presentations from its popular performance and education series Jazz on the Move. Each installment includes a bit of conversation and music highlighting an important artist or era in jazz history. There’s also the option to tune in for the live-streaming Jazz From Home events, which feature a selection of established and emerging jazz artists. And for those really looking to dig in, NJW is taking its classes online, with a variety of options designed to fit your schedule. Visit nashvillejazz.org for more information. AMY STUMPFL
