Judge Casey Moreland, who is once again facing scrutiny about his conduct in and out of court, has stepped down from his position as presiding judge, WSMV reports.
The move follows days of stories from the Scene and WSMV that stirred up more questions about Moreland and his good friend, attorney Bryan Lewis. Earlier this week, the Scene reported on allegations that arose after a police investigation into the 2016 suicide of a woman who had just returned from a vacation with Moreland and Lewis; on Wednesday, an ethics complaint named Moreland and Lewis as well as Nashville District Attorney Glenn Funk and Williamson County Circuit Court Judge Michael Binkley.
Moreland has denied any wrongdoing.
But despite all that, WSMV reports that Judge Gale Robinson, who was elected to fill the position of presiding judge, says Moreland is resigning for "medical reasons."
Moreland will remain on the bench, but give up administrative and oversight responsibilities like setting dockets and preparing budgets for the General Sessions court.
The Scene's attempts to reach the offices of Robinson and Moreland have been unsuccessful so far, but we'll update this post with more information as we have it.
