For those of us interested in trying to read the tea leaves about whether meth qualifies as a narcotic under state law, the Monroe County woman who was arrested for exposing her unborn baby to meth has plead guilty, but not to the crime for which she was arrested.
A Monroe County mother who was arrested after her newborn baby tested positive for drugs has pleaded guilty to a probation violation and must work with the Helen Ross McNabb Center to get drug treatment. [...]The assault charge will be continued until February 3, 2015. At that time, the judge will review if Loyola has completed the New Beginnings drug treatment program offered by Helen Ross McNabb. If she successfully completes the treatment, the charges may be dropped.
Hard saying, based on so little information, but that doesn't read like the actions of a prosecutor sure if the assault charges would hold up on appeal. I wonder if they'll go back next session and try to "fix" the law or if they'll try to ignore it and just let it sunset?
