I'd heard we were going to have Hank Williams Jr. play at our downtown New Year's Eve bash, but it just seemed so ludicrous that I didn't believe it. I mean, setting aside every other issue, everyone knows this is a drinking holiday, right? Who thinks it's a good idea to tempt Williams with booze and then stick him on national television? That just seems like we're setting the dude up for failure right there.

But let's talk about the other issues. He compared Obama to Hitler and called him "the enemy." He thinks the President is a Muslim and riles up his fans with shouts of "we hate him." He has a song so bad it parodies itself about how much Obama sucks—"Takin' Back Our Country." And The Tennessean reports:

During the country singer's performance at Nashville's "New Year's Eve Bash On Broadway" concert, he'll be presented with the "Patriot Award" from Operation Troop Aid, a non-profit organization that provides care packages for U.S. service members.

Don't get me wrong. I think it's great that he does so much for our troops, but dude's face is on the flag of another country. Just how thin are we stretching the term "patriot" here?

I thought we were proud of Nashville's "It City" status and how we're confounding expectations. So, is this like a reverse double fake out? We're not just the kind of place where you can get drunk and have a 50/50 shot of listening to Hank Jr. rant about the President, but we're not above being the kind of place where you can get drunk and have a 50/50 shot of listening to Hank Jr. rant about the President?

Well, either way, this is going to be awesome. If he behaves himself, he's a fun performer. If he doesn't behave himself, well, then, let me be the first to laugh long and hard, because no one will be able to say that they couldn't have known he would do that, whatever "that" ends up being.
