Election officials have produced yet another result in the Douglas Henry-Jeff Yarbro primary contest—giving Henry the victory this time by 13 votes—and Yarbro says "a recount appears to be in order." That's an obvious understatement. As Yarbro has just pointed out
in a press release, today's announcement is the election commission's third tally in five days. All have occurred under confusing circumstances—at least to the public—with recounts happening without notice. First, Yarbro won by 18 votes. No, Henry won by two votes. No wait, Henry actually won by 13 votes. And it was all after thunderstorms knocked out optical scanners on election night, forcing officials to count the critical absentee ballots by hand.
Yarbro campaign lawyer Kathryn Sasser says "the results have been subject to obvious math and communication errors." Yarbro says:
"With so much confusion surrounding the returns, especially the absentee vote count, we need to get some clarity about the results of this election. The thousands of voters who went to the polls deserve as much. Over the next few days, we will continue to talk with the Henry campaign and determine the best way to move forward."
