Metro Police finally arrested disgraced financial adviser Larry Cherry, who bolted from Nashville more than six months ago. Cherry, who was apprehended in Madison, had lost millions of dollars for several high-profile clients, including singer/songwriters John Hiatt and Radney Foster. His bail was set at $200,000.
Cell-phone ban
Faced with a mounting fiscal crisis, the Tennessee General Assembly is on a tangent, focusing its attention on the issue of driving while digital. This week, the legislature’s Transportation and Safety Planning subcommittee will look into legislation that would institute a $25 fine for talking on your hand-held mobile phone while driving. No word on whether the new bill would apply to Music Row executives.
Warm winter
The good news is the ground is warm enough for bulb planting. The bad news is that there’s nothing going on in the fireplace. In what looks to be another mild winter for Nashville, temperatures were expected to reach the high 60s this week. But don’t get too excited. The city’s recent string of unseasonably warm winters has been blamed for growing populations of snakes and insects.
