Nashville Waffle House Settles Sexual Harassment Suit

Four night-shift servers at the Waffle House on Dickerson Pike won a $45,000 judgment against parent company SouthEast Waffles, LLC, for alleged sexual harassment by a night cook and the deaf ear the three women say management turned to their complaints.

Paula Michelle Clark, Sandy McEwen, Ina Cowan and Tammy Walker claim cook and third-shift boss John Norman touched them inappropriately, made unwanted sexual advances and requests for sexual activity, according to the complaint.

They also say that when they complained to management, managers "failed to take prompt and appropriate corrective action."

SouthEast Waffles was ordered to allow the claim filed on behalf of the women by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission during the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy action. The company asked for bankruptcy protection in August 2008 so it could ferret out some accounting irregularities.
