Willie Nelson to Open for Country Singer Steven Tyler at Pilgrimage Festival [Updated]

"Country singer" Steven Tyler (L). Country singer Willie Nelson (R).

Update: Pilgrimage's publicist now tells the Scene Willie Nelson will perform the festival's closing set. (Thank God!)

So it looks like Steven Tyler (American Idol, Aerosmith) is really killing it with his new country career. As least that's what we can glean from a press release dispatched this morning, announcing that rock 'n' roll's fanciest grandma turned twilight country crossover will top the bill at the first annual Pilgrimage Music and Culture Festival, which takes over a farm in Franklin on Sept. 26 and 27.

Taking the role of headliner, Tyler will close play on the festival's final night, capping as part of a weekend of performances from exceedingly listenable acts the likes of Wilco, Weezer, Iron and Wine, Dr. John, Jimmy Cliff, Chris Stapleton and others.

While that's kind of crazy, what's truly amazing is that Tyler will take the stage right after country legend, bona-fide national treasure, tireless weed advocate and unequivocally unhateable American icon Willie Nelson, whose name heretofore topped the Pilgrimage bill. Although I didn't have time to look up red-dirt-state statutes, I'm pretty sure relegating Willie Nelson out of festival headliner position is a capital offense in Texas.

In case you're high, let me spell this out: WILLIE NELSON IS OPENING FOR STEVEN TYLER.

And in case you weren't high, that's a pretty good reason to get high. Stay sober and possibly go crazy crying for feeling blue. Get stoned and go crazy for feeling like the color blue. If you so chose the latter, don't forget to get your Pilgrimage tickets at the festival's official site
