The Week in Fresh Tracks [Forget Cassettes, Linear Downfall, Daniel Pujol and Chris Crofton and More]

Greetings, Cream readers! Are you in the mood to get your stream on? Here's a virtual buffet of fresh tracks from some of your favorite local artists — prepare to feast your ears!

The run up to Halloween weekend has been hot for fresh tracks; ICYMI, check out new jams from JEFF the Brotherhood, All Them Witches, The Features and Cage the Elephant. We've also got a slew of hip-hop coming at you soon via the next Cashmere Thoughts. But there's plenty else to dig into in the realms of rock and pop. We've got some demos, some covers and some spoken word in the mix today as well.

As always, send submissions to cream[at]nashvillescene[dot]com, and look back at past weeks in fresh tracks here.

Forget Cassettes, "Nicholas"http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=3916247612/size=small/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/transparent=true/Forget Cassettes' Beth Cameron has spent most of 2015 sidelined by an illness, which she says has changed her perspective on the process of making demo recordings. "Demoing is such an intimate part of songwriting because, for me, it’s probably the only time I really feel uninhibited and at ease," she says in a Facebook update. She's offering fans a chance to see inside that process via Beth Demos — Vol. 1, a collection of 14 tracks recorded at home between 2006 and 2013, which will be available online and in a limited cassette release  of 100 copies. Above, check out the pensive "Nicholas," the final version of which appeared on Salt in 2006.

Linear Downfall, "Violence"

Local prog-psych outfit Linear Downfall had a busy 2014, playing in the Flaming Lips side project Electric Würms in between other gigs. They also recorded their forthcoming album/film Sufferland, a concept piece focusing on "a tormented girl who is under the control of a tormented man.” In "Violence," above, the group whipsaws between oppressively loud beats, shuddering harsh noise and airy electro-pop. Hear more of Sufferland at the release show, Nov. 6 at Queen Ave. Art Collective.

V to Z, "Spider Kiss" and "Balectome Virus Suite"

Katies drummer Joshua Moore has two more singles from his ongoing series as V to Z. The electro-pop piece "Spider Kiss" features his brother, Katies frontman Jason Moore, and "Balecktome Virus Suite" features contributions from graphic designer and Bright Age guitarist Bret Pelizzari.

Reno Bo, "How Do You Do" / "Eat At Home"

http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=1728111561/size=small/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/transparent=true/Speaking of singles series, the power-pop pro continues promoting his June album Lessons From a Shooting Star with what I like to think of as a double-A side: the fuzzy track "How Do You Do" and a cover of one of my favorite Paul McCartney solo tunes, "Eat At Home" from Ram.

Daniel Pujol and Chris Crofton, Benevolent Billionaires

PUJOL frontman/noteworthy poet Daniel Pujol and funnyman/Scene advice columnist Chris Crofton collaborated on a special Cassette Store Day release via Burger Records, which features poems, monologues, a special mini-episode of The Chris Crofton Show and a few songs. We got a look at it a couple of weeks ago, but here it is in all its surreal glory.

Brian Ritchey, Bordeaux

http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer/album=2159197394/size=small/bgcol=ffffff/linkcol=0687f5/transparent=true/Ritchey's latest is prime Americana, with melancholy verses rolling out slow and gentle over choice tracks recorded at Oceanway Nashville. If you're into Neil Young's Harvest, this'll make a nice addition to your collection.

Wildfront, "Your Love" and "Perfect Day"

To play us out, here are a a pair of covers by ace dream-poppers Wildfront. Just like I didn't think I ever needed to hear When In Rome's "The Promise" again until I heard Sturgill Simpson do it, I was prepared to skip The Outfield's classic-rock radio chestnut "Your Love," but Wildfront's dreamy treatment freshens it right up. Their take on Harry Nilsson's "Perfect Day" (not to be confused with the Lou Reed song of the same name) is likewise ethereal.
