The other day, the New York Post ran this item ("Raconteurs Bassist Jack Lawrence Wants Rent From Ex"). It contains these words:
The bass player for hipster band the Raconteurs is a cheap layabout who is suing his ex-girlfriend for $10,000 in back rent. "Little" Jack Lawrence dated a woman known only as Kelly for a decade, friends of the ex-girlfriend say. "During that time she totally supported him and paid for everything," the pal added. "But the second he hit it big with the Raconteurs, he broke up with her and then tried to kick her out of the home she'd lived in for 10 years. He's despicable."
The story has since spread around the Internet, not surprisingly. Being naturally curious folk ourselves, we at the Cream thought we might take a look at such a lawsuit, which the Post article claims was filed in Nashville.
Too bad there's no lawsuit. According to The Raconteurs camp, there is no lawsuit.
An email from a publicist for The Raconteurs tells the Cream just that, and in no uncertain terms: "The New York Post 'Page Six' item is entirely fabricated and untrue. The band do not have a comment, as it's such unmitigated garbage it's not worth their time. However, you may quote me if you like."
So there you have it. Little Jack Lawrence did not go the Duke Spirit show the other night while his lawyers were vampiring it up on some legal pads and racking up the billable hours.

Update: We are looking into this matter further.
Update II: According to a clerk at the Davidson County court, a lawsuit is pending against Ms. Craig, with Jack Lawrence as the plaintiff. It was filed in November and the docket number is 08GT10615. The case is continued indefinitely, with no court date set.
