Over at Scene food blog Bites,
our colleague Chris Chamberlain is reportingthat longtime East Nashville restaurant The Family Wash — which also regularly hosts jazz, folk and rock shows — will close on Feb. 21. It will reopen in a newer, larger spot on Main Street. Says Chris:
East Nashville pint 'n' pie stalwart The Family Wash is pulling up stakes from their original location on Greenwood Avenue and moving their operations to a new larger building on Main Street near Bolton's Spicy Chicken and Fish. The new restaurant will be a joint venture between James Rubin, Garage Coffee's Robert Camardo, chef John Stephenson and artist manager Mitchell Fox. Stephenson, who most recently ran the kitchen at Fido, is very excited about his new gig. "I think that area of Main Street will be the next hot spot for restaurant development." While the beloved Shepherd's Pie will still remain a mainstay of the menu, Stephenson expects to add plenty of new items from his repertoire to the offerings.
So the good news for pie-heads is that they'll still be able to get a fix. But what about shows? Well, according to former Scene managing editor Jack Silverman, who plays the Wash every Monday night with his outfit The Jack Silverman Ordeal, owner Jamie Rubin says the establishment will definitely still regularly host shows — though the schedule may not stay just the same.
