Yes, adroit local guitar-slinger William Tyler's solo LP, Behold the Spirit, was released in late 2010. Yes, it still managed to claim the No. 5 spot on
our list of 2011's greatest local records. Willy T. — who has put in time with Lambchop and Silver Jews, among others — maintains just that sort of slow-burning, longterm appeal. So then, good news for fans of first-class, alt-folky guitar stylings, as Tyler will soon be releasing a 7-inch
via local rock bloggers-turned-record label Nashville's Dead.
The A-side of Tyler's forthcoming single will be an alternative version of Behold the Spirit's "Oahspe" — it's a version that features the drumming of JEFF the Brotherhood skin-basher and serial Tyler collaborator Jamin Orrall — and the B-side is a cover of Bobby Charles’ “Tennessee Blues." This take on "Oahspe," though still as smart and as sharply played, is significantly more psychedelic than the original, and you can stream it below. The wax hasn't yet showed up in Nashville's Dead's online catalog, but I'd say now's as good a time as any to peruse ND's ever-swelling backlog of fine releases.
Tyler will soon be hitting the road with Texas-bred rock 'n' rollers The Strange Boys, and their tour will include a May 8 stop at The End. See all of those dates after the jump.
