Salutations, Creamsters, and a happy Friday to ya. On this day in 1964, crooner Bobby Vinton (aka "The Polish Prince") scored the last No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart before The Beatles effectively launched the British Invasion. "There! I've Said It Again" topped the chart from Jan. 4 through Feb. 1, when it was dethroned by "I Want to Hold Your Hand." The sea change in popular music that followed means that while the Fab Four need no introduction, Vinton does — though not to fans of Blue Velvet, whose opening sequence features his 1963 hit recording of the song of the same name. (Did you know that Vinton cut his version in Nashville at the Quonset Hut? Now you know.)
In the music section this week, we have a talk with Chelsea Lovitt about making her debut full-length You Had Your Cake, So Lie in It, which contributor Edd Hurt considers one of the most original records released in Nashville last year. We've also got a roundup of news you can use about records that are slated to be released by local artists this year, from Adia Victoria to The Raconteurs and lots more.
Let's talk shows! Take a look at our top picks for the weekend below, let us know what we missed in the comments, and have yourselves a smooth weekend.
