Silver Tears, Aaron Lee Tasjan's sophomore full-length under his own name (released in fall 2016 via New West), showcases his wide range of strengths in admirable fashion. The songs draw deftly on styles from country blues to ’70s-vintage pop, and they're as catchy and as wise as they are wise-crack-y.
It might be a treat to watch the self-deprecating singer-songwriter/bandleader/guitarist matching wits with a late night host like Conan O'Brien. While that has yet to happen, Tasjan and his top-shelf band did play the standout Tears cut "Little Movies" — an ingenious and wistful look at a relationship in trouble, with a hook that conveys a heap of emotion in a compact little package — on Conan Thursday night.
Check it out above (Mellotron bends and all!), and look for Tasjan & Co. at the Ryman on Feb. 18, when they open for Shovels and Rope.
