There's no shortage of fire-spitters in the Nashville rap scene, and a new song and accompanying video brings four Music City MCs together to put on a lyrical clinic. There's no hook, just straight bars over a fairly minimalist beat produced by Syde-FX. The video takes place in a bar as the rappers throw back drinks, play board games and shoot pool. You know: The classic trope of making rap look effortlessly cool and like a whole lot of fun.
Nate Rose kicks it off, comparing his rhymes to an elbow from mixed martial artist Jon Jones. He's followed by nobigdyl., who kicks off a flurry of rhymes before slowing down, dropping gems like: "All these rappers be my homonyms or antonyms / They sound the same but really I live it / And they be acting it."
The always-solid Daisha McBride also shows off a handful of different and often rapid-fire flows, bolstering her claim as "one of the hardest in Tennessee." Tim Gent brings it all home, delivering a verse about self-improvement and hustling his way to the top with a deliberate flow. McBride and Gent graced the Marathon Music Works stage earlier this month at The Underflow, a showcase for Tennessee rap promoted by Red Bull Music and headlined by platinum-record producer Tay Keith.
The new song is presented by Rose's music marketing company SoundFoil. "Tell the world that Nashville has rappers and we did not come to play around," he tweeted when the song dropped. Peep the video above and see for yourself.
