Keeping up with all the new music made by Nashvillians each year is a big job. The music section of your friendly neighborhood alt-weekly paper happens because of several staffers and a heap of contributing writers in addition to yours truly, the humble section editor. And one of the joys of assembling our annual Year in Music issue is learning about artists and releases that even all of us together didn’t get ears on, via our scene poll.Â
With that in mind, I’ve assembled a streaming playlist with a little more than three hours of tracks both new and familiar representing a big array of local music, from hip-hop to punk rock to country and beyond. Via the embeds below, it’s available on Spotify — despite serious, valid concerns about the company and how it does business, it remains the most popular service — as well as Tidal.Â
I’ll also strongly encourage you to buy anything you hear that you like. You can go the direct-from-the-artist route via a platform like Bandcamp (by the way, the next Bandcamp Friday, when the company will waive its artist fees for a day, is set for Feb. 6) or visit one of the mom-and-pop record shops we’re lucky to have in town.
