Jessi Zazu Inc., Officially Launches, Announces First Workshop Series

Jessi Zazu

Ever since influential musician and artist Jessi Zazu died of cervical cancer in Sept. 2017, her friends and family have been dedicated to ensuring her inspiring spirit roars on. Their first order of business? Establishing Jessi Zazu Inc., a foundation aimed and making artistic and creative expression available to all.

Jessi Zazu Inc. was first announced in January, as part of the Ain't Afraid: Songs of Jessi Zazu and Those Darlins tribute night. Now, they've introduced their first project, the Art + Activisim workshop series presented along with YEAH! and the Oasis Center. Led by local artist Marlos E'van, the workshop will teach teens ages 13 to 17 how to make zines focused on the topics most important to them, by utilizing digital collage and graphic design. At the end of the series, which runs Thursdays from March 15 to April 26, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their work at an art show at Fort Houston. Best of all, it's free to attend (though registration is required — learn more here).

Learn more about Jessi Zazu Inc. at their freshly launched website. And if you'd like to help their efforts monetarily, you can donate via PayPal here. You can also keep up with their events and projects via Facebook right here.
