Last week, local independent music venues that have been temporarily shuttered for nearly six months due to COVID-19 got a rare bit of good news. Metro Council approved the allocation of $2 million in CARES funding to help venues avoid closing for good, for the next couple of months at least. Working with the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp., a group of 15 venues under the banner of Music Venue Alliance Nashville (which made the case for venues to Metro’s COVID-19 Financial Oversight Committee) has organized a streaming music festival called Music City Bandwidth.
The plan for the fest is to feature 30 concerts, each streaming at 7 p.m., on exact dates TBA between Sept. 14-Oct. 31. Each of the 15 venues will host two free shows; there will be opportunities to donate to relief funds and directly to venues. The full lineup hasn’t been announced yet, but there’s an array of top talent already on board, running the gamut from R&B ace Jason Eskridge to rockers The Pink Spiders to much-loved songsmith Marshall Chapman to rising country champ Kalie Shorr.
