Glossary to Play 20-Year Anniversary Show at Mercy Lounge

Nineteen-hundred and ninety-seven. It's the year theaters saw the release of Titanic, Boogie Nights, the fourth Warner Bros. Batman and the first Austin Powers. Radiohead released OK Computer, and Shania Twain released Come on Over. Mike Tyson bit Evander Holyfield's ear a couple of times, and a band by the name of Glossary was born in Bucket City.

Longtime locals — and fans of Southern-tinted, storyteller-flavored rock 'n' roll — no doubt remember Glossary. The Murfreesboro-bred band put out seven records in 14 years, all of them brimming with gritty and poignant songs about heartache and hardship and any number of situations that would feel right at home in the pages of a Southern Gothic novel. But while members of Glossary have continued to make music in one form or another, it's been six years since the band released an album and four years since they played together.

Well, hiatus over! Glossary recently announced that they'll reunite in October for their first show since 2013. The band will play Mercy Lounge Saturday, Oct. 7. Jon Latham will appear in support, and tickets are on sale right now for $10 via this link.

Get amped up by peeping some of what Carson Daly calls "back-porch Tennessee rock" in the clips below. A note: "Almsgiver" is probably among my top 10 favorite local rock songs of the past 20 years, right alongside MEEMAW's "Blue in the Blacklight" and Lone Official's "Le Coq Sportif."

Directed By Joey Kneiser and Stephen Trageser using footage from Glossary's 2012 summer tour.
