Forest of Tygers, the ferocious and inventive husband-and-wife metal duo of Rachel and Jim Valosik, isn't the most prolific act around. However, they compensate for any gripes I might have about the paucity of their output by pairing new songs with stunning short films. Their 2015 track "Pay of Pigs" got a bleak and brutal film treatment, and they've followed that up in extraordinary style with a seasonally appropriate horror film to accompany their latest release, a song called "Mongers" that appears on a split 7-inch with Brooklyn's Anicon.
Like the "Pay of Pigs" video, "Mongers" was co-written and directed by Jim Valosik and shot by Paul Cain. As Valosik told Fangoria when the venerable horror magazine premiered "Mongers" on its website, his childhood pal Gray Creasy (recently returned to Nashville after a stretch working in Los Angeles) co-wrote the script with him and handled visual effects. Creasy also stars in the video as Leonard, a small-town guy who is disturbed — very disturbed — by some behavior that he's observed in his neighbors. There are a couple of ways you could interpret the plot, but in the interest of not diminishing the full horrifying impact, I'll stop right here.
Check out the video above, and grab a copy of FoT's split 7-inch here. You can also catch the band in person Nov. 3 at Drkmttr, when they open up for Richmond, Va.'s Prisoner alongside locals Act of Impalement and Long Con.
