Cream Premiere: The Medium Gets Wistful in 'Rosie Posie' [Fresh Track]

Nashville four-piece The Medium has a knack for writing songs that put fantastic, humorous twists on their life experiences. The group, which consists of Sam Silva, Shane Perry, Michael Brudi and Jared Hicks, has a powerfully catchy retro-pop-rock sound that incorporates late-’60s psychedelia as well as the just-polished-enough sound of contemporary DIY rock.

Today, we’re pleased to premiere “Rosie Posie,” a single from their forthcoming debut LP Get It While It’s Hot. The group worked on the album over the past year with engineer-producer Jake Davis, and it will be out Sept. 6 via local label YK Records.

The narrative in the song comes from a laser-tag galavant with two EDM-loving Australian friends (name-checked in the second verse) who came to visit the band. The music was written by Silva with a lyrical assist from Perry. Hooky guitar lines percolate throughout the song, reinforcing lyrics that are both playful and wistful.

“Half the lyrics are [taken] from what really happened and the rest are just rhyme games,” guitarist and vocalist Perry tells the Scene via email. “It's a song of admiration, like many of the songs on the album. It’s a footnote about our life in the band at the time.”

Listen to “Rosie Posie” below and preorder the album via the group’s Bandcamp page. The Medium plays in Nashville on Sept. 5, the day before the album’s out, at the first installment for the year of of Musician’s Corner’s free September Sundown concert series in Centennial Park. On release day proper, they’ll play at 6 p.m. at Grimey’s.
