Cream Premiere: Spin Jay Leo Phillips' Post-Punk Barn Burner '(Do the) 20th Century'

Jay Leo Phillips is a name you probably know if you've been following "the only music blog that matters" from our humble beginnings. But if you're new to town (hi there!), Phillips was the frontman of long-defunct, ace post-punk standard-bearers Apollo Up! (if that sounds like your kinda scene and you don't know AU!, here's a good spot to start). He also played with Beth Cameron's Forget Cassettes and Austin, Tex.'s cosmic, amorphous rock outfit ... And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead.

Very soon — Oct. 12, to be precise — Phillips will release his first solo LP, One Million One Million One Million via Michael Eades' YK Records (preorder digitally or on vinyl). The album, on which Phillips plays everything himself, feels like Elvis Costello backed by Wire. The opening track "(Do the) 20th Century" is exactly the taut and canny barn burner you'd hope for, and we're very pleased to premiere it today. Check it out below.
