, making his third solo album 4th of July was a comfortable experience —even though he put some extra pressure on himself by waiting until just before the sessions to write most of the songs.
If there was any angst in the genesis of "Sleepy Lagoon," it's certainly not apparent in the finished work, a breezy gem that borrows from glam in a similar way to mid-period Of Montreal. Using footage shot inside an airport and on Washington's Lopez Island, Broemel's pal Eric Hopper has created an appropriately dreamy video for the tune, which you can check out above.
The album is out today, and you've got two chances to catch Broemel celebrating its release this weekend. First, he plays a free in-store set at Grimey's at 6 p.m. this evening, and then a show with Sun Seeker at The Basement East, kicking off at 9 p.m. Saturday night. Tickets to the latter are on sale now and will set you back $15.
