Brittany Howard is a Swiss Army Knife of music genres — as frontwoman of Alabama Shakes she's a soulful powerhouse, and with garage-rock outfit Thunderbitch she's a guitar-slaying force to be reckoned with. But her new project, Bermuda Triangle, shows us a side we don't see much — a soft and gentle side. The trio, which also features Becca Mancari and Jesse Lafser, gave us our first peek last month with bittersweet ballad "Rosey." Their newest song, "Suzanne," is also a soft one, but glows with a warm, golden sheen as Howard laments the fact that her love interest is still head over heels for another woman. "I just want to be Suzanne / She still has your heart," she softly croons.

Even though there's a sadness in the lyrics, Howard sings about the love triangle with a carefree vibe. It reminds me of something very specific, a song my parents used to listen to when I was a kid, but I can't put my finger on. But later in the song, that vague familiarity takes a surprising turn, with muffled production coming in, swirling everything around and making it feel like you're losing focus or getting dizzy, which, admittedly, can happen when you're lost in love. Listen to the song above.

If you're up for a road trip, Bermuda Triangle has a few dates around the area (though none in Nashville): They play Mill + Mine in Knoxville Oct. 6 and The Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C., on Oct. 8. Keep an eye on their calendar at bermudatriangleband.com.
