One of the cool things about being in a popular band is that you've got a platform to draw attention to things that concern you. If you've caught Bully in concert a time or two, you might have noticed bandleader Alicia Bognanno wearing a shirt that reads "SeaWorld Kills."
Today, PETA2 — a youth-oriented organization operating under PETA — released a PSA in which Bognanno asks fans of Bully to not support SeaWorld or businesses that support SeaWorld. Check it out above.
Whatever your feelings about SeaWorld, marine mammals in captivity and the documentary Blackfish — which used the death of an orca trainer as a lens to examine the treatment of captive animals and sparked a backlash against SeaWorld — the PSA is a good reason to read up. A quick round-up of recent news: Traditional orca shows have ended at SeaWorld, but a show with a performance component will continue; also, what is expected to be the last orca to be bred in a SeaWorld park was born last week.
