See what I did with the title there? Re-vamped? Come on. You know that's good. That's half the reason I wanted to write this post. Alright, alright ... the matter at hand. Our lovely and talented contributor Tracy Moore informed me this morning that she'd read somewhere about Elvira's Movie Macabre returning to television, now with an all-new Jack White-produced theme song. I'm sure you all recall
Elvira's Movie Macabre. It was totally MST3K before
MST3K— riffing on dumpy B movies, only with a spooky, bosomy vixen instead of some goof and a couple of robots.
Well, Elvira-portrayer Cassandra Peterson tells Fangoria that Movie Macabre will be returning "the week of Sept. 25 on syndicated stations across the U.S." In an interview with Mondo Celluloid, Peterson — who cites The Cramps, Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie as some of her personal faves — talks about Jack White doing the theme song:
I’m thrilled that Jack White is doing the music. I’m losing my mind! I’m sure you’re all familiar with Jack White, and the White Stripes. Then he did Raconteurs, now he’s with Dead Weather. Incredible. I couldn’t be more thrilled he’s doing the music. I loooove me some Jack White! ... Jack White did this song with this little group he put together called The Black Bells, and it’s gonna be my theme song. It’s kinda spooky and cool - you guys are gonna dig it, man. We’re gonna make a vinyl out of it. Day-Glo vinyl!
A small amount of Googling reveals that the correct spelling is, in fact, "
The Black Belles," and that group of ladies has a video for their song "What Can I Do?"
right here. Their aesthetic clearly seems to be a fit for Elvira, no?
UPDATE, 9-4: Our post originally had that Jack White wrote the theme song, "What Can I Do?" According to his publicist, White did produce the song (for Third Man Records' Blue Series), but it was actually written by Olivia Jean of The Black Belles. Sorry for the error.
