Forget Cassettes at Exit/In
In the past decade, high-grade rock 'n' roll has gone from rare spectacle to flagship attraction in our fair city. We're fortunate to have a slew of top female artists, both local and touring performers, in our
round-up of must-see summer concerts, as well as the Southern Girls Rock 'n' Roll Camp, a long-standing institution that helps young women build the confidence they need to take on the music industry — or any other industry, for that matter. But
we're still a long wayfrom a music business where women don't start with an arbitrary disadvantage.
With that in mind, Beth Cameron, talent booker and outstanding frontwoman of Forget Cassettes, curated a podcast of local rock groups featuring badass women over at We Own This Town. It's a reminder of the incredible firepower of the female talent in the vicinity, especially in rock and its related genres — the 10 cuts include music from Bully, Idle Bloom, Churchyard, Tristen, Cortney Tidwell and more — and just as importantly, it's a great listen. "Each of these songs is very special to me," says Cameron. "When I was growing up here and starting to play music, I was aware of only a teaspoon of female musicians in this town. Today, Nashville has a healthy tablespoon. This progress excites me." Stream it below.
