Each time the bringers of prog-infused surf rock called Daikaiju (the name comes from the Japanese expression for giant monsters like Godzilla and Gamera) have inflicted their radioactive wrath on Music City, we negotiated a fragile peace, and they retreated into the Cumberland with a mighty roar. Earlier this week, word reached Scene HQ that Daikaiju had escaped their secret laboratory bunker near the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala., and are headed straight for Five Points! Who will save our farm-to-table bacon this time?
Fear not, citizen! Idle Bloom may be three-quarters lady, but don’t expect them to trip over invisible tree roots en route to the fallout shelter: Instead, they’ll fight back valiantly with their twin-guitar rock ’n’ roll flamethrower. Post-punk-pop faves Western Medication will deploy heat-seeking hooks and jangling fuzz, while electro-kraut duo Future Daze pulls a flanking maneuver with some Can-style noisy psychedelia. Get there early and get on the front lines — neither taco truck nor craft brew taproom is safe from this unstoppable force!
