Could WRVU Be Saved by an Endowment, or a Purchase by Vanderbilt?

Interesting weekend for

watchers: Orbis, Vanderbilt's progressive-leaning publication,

, which includes this intriguing passage:

Director of Student Media Chris Carroll argues that the VSC board worked to exhaust all other options before making the possible sale public — and that even now, they are treading carefully. "They reached the conclusion at the end of the year that having a public discussion about it to invite all kinds of information would be the wise thing to do," Carroll said.

There was also hope that announcing the possible sale would inspire a large endowment donation, or even inspire Vanderbilt to purchase the radio station, Carroll said. [Emphasis mine.]

That's an interesting wrinkle — as I reported in

, Chancellor Zeppos' office has said, "The university views this as a matter for the board and will not intervene in the process or the decision." Now it would seem that VSC would at least entertain the idea of the university's input, at least if it came in the form of cash.
