Caption Contest and Fresh Track: Chris Crofton and the Alcohol Stuntband EP Release, May 23 at The Basement [Updated]

In the greatest alliance of comedian and blog since David Cross ran Stereogum for a week, the Cream and Chris Crofton have teamed up for a caption contest. Creators of the three funniest captions written in the comments in regard to the above photo will be granted free access to Chris Crofton and the Alcohol Stuntband's EP release Saturday, May 23, at The Basement. Openers are the all-female Rage Against the Machine cover band Take the Power Back & Bad Friend. I can't speak for the Rage cover band, but I caught Bad Friend for the first time in months with Royal Bangs last week, and they're still making some riff-centric, no-frills, grungy rock that's good for a solid head-bob.

Now as far as the EP goes—titled Chris Crofton and the Alcohol Stuntband—Crofton himself says it's the type of shit you want to "put on the boombox while you're drinking beers down by the train tracks." I've listened to it, and he's not far off. 'Cept I don't know what the fuck a boombox is because I was born less than a quarter-century ago. Regardless, the EP contains my favorite kind of cock rock: the kind that's actually supposed to be funny. We've got the opening track from the EP for your listening pleasure:

If the female depicted in the above song sounds like someone you know, that's probably because it is someone you know. Here's a sneak peek of Jim Ridley's Critic's Pick from tomorrow's issue:

...there's enough sludgy, bad-tempered riffage to rip apart a phonebook-sized stack of Kerrang!s, capped by a flabbergasting ode to Dickerson Road at night that evokes a mental image of Dylan and Jim Morrison trawling wild-eyed and wary for scary trim near the Congress Inn. I'd have been thrilled if Chinese Democracy had turned out even half this good.

True. CC and the ASB are also playing an in-store at Gimey's at 6 p.m. on Saturday, and everybody that shows up for the release at The Basement gets a copy of the EP for free. Now if you want in for free, get to captioning! Contest ends Thursday at noon. Update: Contest has ended. Congrats to Buddy, Che and Kenny Powers.
