"Book people are book people and rock show people are rock show people, and never the twain shall meet." Whoever said that is downright silly, I say. If there's one thing we learned from Ghostbusters — besides always answering "yes"
when someone asks if you're a god— it's that sometimes you gotta cross the streams if you're going to save the universe.
Well how's this for crossing some streams? On Wednesday, Sept. 17, the bands on the bill at The East Room give you reason enough to come out: You've got some meaty, adept indie folk from recent transplant Kelly Ruth and her band, some wide-grinning party-rock from RI¢HIE (the state fair starts this weekend, so the timing is perfect if they play "Gravitron") and some fizzy, sparkly posi-vibes from dance maestro Meth Dad (who is kind of the opposite of a Sad Dad, if you think about it).
But on top of that, there's a book swap. It's pretty self-explanatory: Bring a book you're done with, pick up a new one from the stack, and get one greenback dollar off the cover charge. It's also a cool way to make new friends, because you're going to be hanging out all night with the person who picked up your old book and the person who brought the one that's new to you.
Stumped for ideas on what to bring? Look for some inspiration on our arts and culture blog, Country Life, where I've been checking in with the Nashville Public Library and Parnassus Books to find out which titles have flown off their shelves in the last two months (July, August).
