What is Americana? It is a big tent. It is soul, roots, blues and R&B. It is
"contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles."It is British people in cowboy hats just the same as it is a guitar player with a kick drum or a band that typically just calls itself "country."
But this week, what appears to be the most well-attended AmericanaFest yet burns through town. And that means a lot of names. A lot of singer-songwriter names, and a lot of band names. Using the AmericanaFest's official showcase-lineup schedule, I have selected some of those names and put them up against some fakes. After the jump you will find two lists: Americana Band Names: Real or Fake? and Americana Artist or Baseball Player? In the first list, you will find 15 band names. Some of them are real, and the rest are figments of my imagination. In the second list, you will find 13 names. Some of them are real, and the rest are the names of actual baseball players (some living, some dead). None of the names in the second list are fabricated. (Hat-tip to local man-about-town and baseball wonk Tyler Glaser for sending along the baseball player names.) Answer keys to both lists are linked at the end of this post. Best of luck!
