Modular Art Pods

There aren’t a lot of art galleries guaranteed to contain art that most people will connect with, but Modular Art Pods at Fort Houston is giving it a shot. The pods in this exhibit form a system of interconnected cubes designed by individual artists. The separate pieces of work come together and create a tunnel, essentially forcing people to spend time alone, crawling through and connecting with each piece — physically, at the very least. Tony Youngblood came up with the model, with its first iteration taking place at abrasiveMedia in 2015. The Modular Art Pods have since moved locations and changed organizers. Now artists David Hellams and Abbey Skojec mount a new exhibition at Fort Houston, with art pods designed by Amanda Lomax, Pepper Sims, Beth Reitmeyer, Dylan Pew, Eric Mason, Libby Michael, Kay Kennedy, Matthew Kinney, Madeleine Hicks, Cassie Hamilton, Kara McLeland, Nico Magee, Megan Kelley and The Inbound Lands, Lauren Michelle Ballejos, Claire Ramage, Sophia Gordon-Stevens and Teddy Gordon-Stevens. Come see what a literal art crawl looks like. The opening is 3 to 9 p.m. July 13, and a closing event will take place July 20 from noon to 9 p.m. Otherwise, the pods will be available for a crawl-through Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Through July 20 at Fort Houston, 2020 Lindell Ave. MAMIE DAVIS
