Make a Bid at the Keep A Breast Exhibit at Riverside Revival

Maggie Rose’s cast, designed by Lizzy Lunday

Adult-themed plaster casts are no longer the provenance of famed groupie Cynthia Plaster Caster alone. The new queen of casting is Shaney Jo Darden, whose Keep A Breast campaign raises money for breast cancer research through fun and sexy boob-centric art pieces. Darden, who started the project in 2000 when a friend was diagnosed with breast cancer, has facilitated more than 1,000 casts, which has resulted in more than $500,000 in donations. The idea is to remove the shame that some people associate with breasts and breast health by casting the chests of all kinds of women, hoping to eliminate any stigma that’s been attached. For the Nashville iteration of Keep A Breast, a bevy of notable locals have participated — including model Karen Elson, former Mayor Megan Barry, and musicians like Mickey Guyton and Margo Price. The casts have been decorated by a variety of artists, including more Scene faves than we can mention in a single Critic’s Pick — David Onri Anderson, Julia Martin, Andra Eggleston, Donna Woodley, Elisheba Israel Mrozik and more. The exhibition will be open to the public 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily for the duration of the show, and the virtual auction runs Oct. 6-28. Find more information at the Keep A Breast website, keep-a-breast.org. Oct. 2-31 at Riverside Revival, 1600 Riverside Drive LAURA HUTSON HUNTER
