Maddie Medley w/Arson Daily

Maddie Medley and Arson Daily each capture a similar feeling about youth — it’s confusing and a little miserable. North Carolina’s Arson Daily is a three-piece rock band with a danceable energy, and their lyrics are often about being disoriented due to a failed relationship. “Tell me, what is all this about?” sings frontman Zach Dunham in “Tell Me.” “Tell me, is your head full of doubt?” Meanwhile, singer Maddie Medley makes vocally driven alt-rock in the vein of Fiona Apple that centers on issues that a lot of young women face. Her single “Coming of Age” expresses a feeling of uncertainty. “Shouldn’t I know how to do this by now?” she sings. “Can somebody tell me how to figure this out?” “Edith” speaks to how women are taught to be deferential: “My mother was a firecracker / My grandmother was too / And if I’d ever had a daughter / I’d want her to burn blue.” ARDEN IGLEHEART
