Does getting together for a reading with a bunch of Nashville’s literati sound like a good time to you? If so, Native magazine’s Lit Party is a night you’ll love. For this installation, The Free Nashville Poetry Library will feature a reading from librarian and poet Ann Manning. This is Manning’s last reading before leaving the city to study poetry at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the fall, so show up to enjoy her work while you have the chance. Writing nonprofit Southern Word will feature Simba, a spoken word poet, community worker and student support coordinator at LEAD Public Schools. “He focuses his work and his word on the injustices brought onto people of color,” Southern Word says. The event will also feature selections by arts organization Be Witched (see our pick on their Centerfold event above), publisher Third Man Books, and writing and art group Authors and Artists: The Regenerates. The evening is a great opportunity to meet other local writers and readers and see what they’re working on.
