When the Legendary Shack Shakers began their career in the mid-’90s, the adjective “Legendary” seemed like an act of pure punk chutzpah. Their mix of blues, rockabilly and Pentecostal roots-rock revivalism was nothing new, even though they’d added their own Western Kentucky-bred fury and fervor to the tabernacle. But more than 20 years later, Colonel J.D. Wilkes and the assembled apostles are still proving that proclaiming their “Legendary” status was more of a prophecy than a boast. They’ll be laying down the gospel once again Friday night, and all are welcome — most especially the infidels and nonbelievers. RANDY FOX
