Jessie Key

A native of Glendale, Ky., singer and songwriter Jessie Key moved to Nashville in 2014 and began performing with Music City producer and singer Rob Galbraith. The pairing makes sense — Galbraith is a pioneer of Nashville soul-R&B, while Key grew up listening to soul, country and bluegrass. Like many talented Nashville singers, Key hasn’t yet signed with a record label, but her nuanced soul-country style marks her as a performer to watch. Onstage with Galbraith and his crack band, Key belts without over-souling and displays a feel for straight country. She appears on country legend Ronnie Milsap’s latest album The Duets, and with Milsap she sang Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell’s pop standard “You Are My Sunshine” at a 2018 Grand Ole Opry tribute to Ray Charles. (PBS documented the show for a television premiere set for later this year.) She says she’s starting work on a forthcoming solo album, which ought to be interesting. Nashville singer-songwriter Derik Hultquist will open. 8:30 p.m. at Douglas Corner, 2016 Eighth Ave. S. EDD HURT
