Invisible Mexico: An Augmented Reality Exhibit

Invisible Mexico is an augmented reality exhibit that uses audio, visual (2D and 3D) and sound to immerse the viewer into the hidden and invisible Afro Latinos in Mexico.

Invisible Mexico is an augmented reality exhibit by the award-winning team of Hakeem Khaaliq and Queen Muhammad Ali that showcases the isolated and forgotten descendants of African natives who settled in Mexico. This unique exhibit, that was documented over 10 years and more than 40 trips to several parts of Mexico, showcases portraits of Afro Mexicanos who live in the rural Mexican Pacific and Gulf coasts and have only been recognized by the Mexican government in 2016. This exhibit brings light to those who have been marginalized and forgotten and tells the stories of their importance and impact on Mexican cultural, history and traditions.

This project is made possible with partial funding from Humanities Tennessee, an affiliate of National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as support from Metro Nashville Arts Commission, Tennessee Arts Commission and National Endowment for the Arts.
