Clybourne Park

Bruce Norris’ Pulitzer- and Tony-winning play functions as a tricky “sequel” to Lorraine Hansberry’s 1959 classic A Raisin in the Sun (which, coincidentally, opens next week at Nashville Rep). Norris’ work provides perspective on the historical reality of black homeowners moving into white communities, then offers some amped-up satirical speculation when the action fast-forwards to a modern-day gentrifying neighborhood. At times brilliantly subversive, and challenging throughout, Clybourne Park — which the Rep premiered locally in 2012 — is newly mounted here by Circle Players under the direction of Daniel DeVault. The cast of eight includes Caroline Prince, Doug Allen, Chandra Walton and Ethan Treutle. See circleplayers.net for tickets. MARTIN BRADY
