If you follow local gardening and naturalist groups on social media, you likely saw some ecstatic posts at the end of February to the tune of, “It’s here!” and, “They’re coming!” These green thumbs were talking about crocuses and daffodils, some of the first signs of spring. There’s no better place in Nashville to observe flora in all its glory than Cheekwood Estate & Gardens. Their annual five-week celebration of springtime, Cheekwood in Bloom, commences this weekend, complete with snowdrops, crocuses, hyacinths, daffodils, magnolias, redbuds and dogwoods. Saturday’s schedule includes workshops, children’s storytime, live music, a beer garden and docent-led history and garden tours. Subsequent events in the spring schedule extend to workshops in flower arranging, growing roses and spring greenery; the popular Blooms & Brunch; yoga; tai chi; plein air painting; and a bevy of kids’ and family activities. It’s also a great time to check out the art gallery’s exhibition, Derived From the Decorative, reviewed by our own Laura Hutson Hunter in the Feb. 21 issue of the Scene (“Country Decor”) and on view until June 9.
