Since 1941, Joseph Kesselring’s wildly hilarious stage (and later film) classic has entertained gazillions, to the point where the piece almost has become a cliché in community theater settings. Who hasn’t seen — or doesn’t know — Arsenic and Old Lace? But with a reasonable respite from its overdone pleasures, we welcome this old warhorse back, with its colorful characters, absurdist plot, slapstick antics and rather macabre general spirit. Daniel DeVault directs the new ACT 1 production, which features Linda Speir and Debbie Kraski as the zany Brewster sisters, plus Eric Butler, Drew Dunlop, Robert Fish, Kristen Surratt and Ethan Treutle (as Teddy). Veteran actor Rob Wilds also puts in an appearance. Tickets available via ticketsnashville.com. MARTIN BRADY
