Hovvdy w/October Tooth & Bantug

Ever hear of Duster? Not many had when the San Jose, Calif., group was operating in the late ’90s/early 2000s, but in time its quietly heavy, drone-y, lo-fi sound has become quietly influential. Hovvdy (pronounced “howdy”), is a young guitar-and-drums duo from Austin, Texas, whose minimalist bedroom pop has a similarly muted, inward-gazing quality. The dozen songs on the just-released sophomore record Cranberry take their time, sounding warm and cozy while also slightly distant and aloof. This triple bill, rounded out by a pair of local SoundCloud artists, October Tooth and Bantug, promises to be a very chill affair — and unlike those Duster LPs on Discogs, won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
