Late-night legend David Letterman has professed his admiration for Jason Isbell on more than one occasion, so it was only fitting that the critically acclaimed Nashville-residing singer-songwriter and his killer-in-her-own-right wife Amanda Shires — who was a few months pregnant at the time — played The Late Show just weeks before Dave’s farewell episode. Joined by noted harmonica player and frequent Willie Nelson sideman Mickey Raphael, the duo delivered a poignant cover of “Mutineer” by another Letterman fave, the late, great Warren Zevon. Moving stuff.
