The Nashville Symphony wowed young folks last year with a stellar Pied Piper performance of Gustav Holst’s The Planets. Now back by popular demand, the work has made another trip around the sun and returns with some exclusive high-definition visuals from NASA for a spectacle sure to impress patrons of all ages. The Planets is an illustrative seven-piece suite that brings voice to an otherwise silent frontier, with movements for each planet in our solar system and its respective mythological character — Earth and tiny Pluto (remember when it was a planet?) not included. Explore the horn-fueled war marches of Mars, soaring string melodies that embody Jupiter’s vastness, an ethereal chorale that reflects Neptune’s azure mystique and more, all from the safety of the symphony hall. Take in these vibrant images of each movement’s namesake on a 70-foot screen and experience Holst’s flagship classical ode to the cosmos like never before. Other works on the program include Josef Strauss’ Music of the Spheres and Philip Glass’ Violin Concerto No. 1, featuring NSO concertmaster Jun Iwasaki as soloist. Tickets are selling fast, so head to nashvillesymphony.org to check for availability. MATT FOX
