"Friends with Benefits" is the brainchild of Nashville-based musicians, and friends, Eva Cassel, Kathryn Hallberg, and V Blackburn. This is the first of hopefully many more "Friends with Benefits" shows at which all proceeds will be donated to a cause of the performers' choice. This particular show will benefit the Sexual Assault Center of Middle Tennessee.
San Francisco Bay area native brings coastal vibes down south to Nashville, TN after graduating from Berklee College of Music in 2017. With a resilient punk San Francisco edge, her diverse musical style combines the indie attitude of Elliot Smith and the pristine vocal melodicism of Joni Mitchell. A self-proclaimed "word nerd", Cassel’s poignant honest lyrics reflect her love of language and fascination with the human condition.
Americana-pop artist Kathryn Hallberg wraps memorable melodies around clever and devastating turns of phrase. With a velvet voice packing unsuspecting power, and enthralling guitar riffs, Nashville based Hallberg is a commanding force. Originally from Houston, TX, Hallberg began songwriting and performing at 11, strengthening her chops at open mic nights. Her hard work and persistence earned her coveted billings with musical legends such as Terri Hendrix and Susan Gibson. Hallberg's forthcoming project, a matured and slight departure from her previous work, will be released in September 2018.
Nashville based artist V Blackburn describes her music as “grit-pop”. Featuring the lyrical strength of a singer-songwriter, the catchy hooks of pop music, and the dirty guitars of blues-rock, V Blackburn’s tunes satiate a slew of musical desires. Blackburn has opened for groups ranging from Portland sister-trio Joseph to the Nashville-based Waker. 2018 will see a number of releases from the young songstress, starting with her single “Static”, an electro-pop song about knowing when to move on, which was released everywhere March 2018.
