Oyters from Rudie's Seafood and Sausage.
Andrea Zelinski: "I ate at the
Farmers' MarketTWICE this weekend, which never happens. Of course, I didn't opt for the healthy stuff. First round: Swagruha Indian Restaurant. I went with the old standby of butter chicken and chicken tikka masala with chicken rice, which always leaves me full and warm to the belly. The second time, slightly healthier. I hit up Chicago Style Gyro and had them cover a plate full of tabouli salad (instead of rice) and pile it high with gyro meat, topped with cucumber sauce. I felt slightly better about myself after that."
Laura Hutson: "I love oysters, but they're a kind of rare treat for me these days, and the past few times I've ordered them have been while I was out of town. But now that I know how good the oysters at Rudie's Seafood and Sausage are, I'm going to start getting them all the time. These were Blue Point oysters, and it was $14 for a half-dozen. I also got a small salad that was mainly arugula with a sprinkling of corn, goat's cheese, roasted tomatoes and spiced pecans — yum."
MaggieMoo's Cotton Candy Ski Jump®.
Steve Cavendish: "It's nice to know that a decade-plus-old sense memory of Chinese takeout is still good. While in D.C. recently, I deliberately picked an AirBnB that was in the delivery area of my two favorite places when I lived here at the turn of the millennium. Happily, I can report that the chicken in garlic sauce from
Meiwahis a little gingery, but still so good that I ate myself into an MSG-induced coma."
Stephen Trageser: "A friend shared a snack of some Stone Fox pimiento cheese with crackers and pickles. Simple, delectable comfort food turned out to be exactly what I needed. I don't really care one way or the other about bacon (as long as it's crispy, I enjoy it, but I don't seek it out), but this reminded me that the Fox's BLT with pimento cheese is stupid good."
Megan Seling: "There was something about all the candy, the toppings, and the sugar-filled flavors of ice cream at MaggieMoo's that made me revert back to be a kid and, with that, I ordered what any proud 8-year-old would order: the Cotton Candy Ski Jump®. It's a base of blindingly bright blue cotton candy-flavored ice cream, mixed up with mini marshmallows, mini M&Ms and marshmallow topping. The first few bites were incredible, but the novelty soon wore off. I wish I could say the same for the blue dye, which is ... ahem ... still obviously working its way through my system."
